I am a HUGE Me’Shell Ndegeocello fan!! I have seen her in concert 3 times (twice in Dallas, TX and once in Eugene, OR), which is more than I have seen any one artist. Her music has had a tremendous impact on my life. At one point I couldn’t listen to the album Bitter as it spoke too close things I was feeling. Originally airing on my first online tv show, this clip was part of a series created in celebration of both Black History Month (February) and Women’s History Month (March). When I first discovered her music in college I had not yet had my revelation that I was queer. I also didn’t know she was either. I love the growth we get to witness in her music and in herself as an individual. I am forever grateful to her for her bravey which allows her to be genuine, honest and vulnerable in her music.
My good friend Reese is another brave and genuine soul and she helped me pay tribute to one of my favorite musicians.
